Once upon a time in America, young men came across and restored several pairs of gold-filled 1940‘s
spectacles while studying in college.
He discovered that gold-filled cable temples were holding the lightweight frame in position while he was pitching for his college baseball team.
Soon, friends and family were asking him to find and restore pairs of these “cool old” frames for them.
That’s when RetroSpecs & Co was born!
Apparently, as the rest of the industrialized world was recovering from World War I, American Optical Companies began mass-production of frames in 1/10 12 K gold-filled wire with 12K solid nose pads.
The material developed by the jewelry industry that was designed to last forever.
Today, each antique frame entering RetroSpecs’ restoration facility goes through an extensive aprooving process.
All the parts are being restored to perfection and re-assembled to produce the frames in its original form.
Over the years, the most sophisticated restoration techniques and custom made machinery were developed.
